Zealandia Sunnyhills Women’s Caro Bowl
Below are player profiles on each of the Zealandia Sunnyhills players. The team is proud to be sponsored by Zealandia and Lotto.
Melissa O’Keeffe (aka Mel), Captain is the leading nutrition consultant at Peak Nutrition Consulting and head personal trainer at Contours Highland Park. She has worked in the fitness industry as a personal trainer/nutrition consultant for 6 years. From a small age she played
tennis for Sunnyhills and also coached the juniors for several years there. Hard work and dedication lead her to become successful at national and international levels, representing school, Auckland and the NZ from 12 years old. If competitive tennis hadn’t been enough she went onto St Kentigern College and the triathlon team. Since 2005 she has competed in over 60 races; ranging from 10km, 21km, to 2km, running events, triathlons, duathlons at national level, half-ironman’s and she has now achieved her biggest challenge to date, the 2012 Wanaka Ironman Challenge. Her next goal will be to run her own studio/nutrition business, help Sunnyhills/ St Kentigern College become competitive in the Caro Bowl and compete in another ironman in 2014.
Paige Hourigan is 15 and is from Turakina, Wanganui. She currently boards at St Kents and would like to have a professional tennis career. Paige has won numerous NZ Singles and Doubles titles in the 12, 14 and 16 age groups. She won the NZ National 18 U Singles title in 2012 and is currently a member of the NZ 16 U Team (Junior Fed Cup). She won her first NZ Nationals Doubles title 12/U at age 11 and has represented NZ in 2010, 2011 and 2012. She won NZ Top Dog Player of the year in 2010/11 with a world junior ranking of 1600. Paige has dramatically improved on that in a short time and currently has a world junior ranking of 270. Paige is the winner of 3 IFT International tournaments for 18 U and competed in the NZ 14U team at the Czech Republic World Finals playing at No.1 and winning against Great Britain, China and Colombia in the 2011/12 season. Paige played Caro Bowl for Remuera last year at No.1. Many of our members will be familiar with Paige as she boarded last year with the Nowacki Family.
Kelly Drew is 15 and has been a member of the Saint Kentigern Girls Premier Tennis Team for the last three years in which they have been reining title holders of the National Secondary Schools Team Championships for that period. Kelly is the captain of the Premier Team. She is a
member of the Auckland 16 girl’s team for the National Teams Event and played No.1 in this team. Kelly was the winner of the NZ National 14 girls doubles title in 2010 and 2011 and finished runner-up in the National 14 girls Singles in 2011. Kelly played Caro Bowl for Royal Oak last year as No.3 where they came runners-up. She also played Chelsea Cup for Belmont this year as their No.2. Kelly is also a Representative Netball Player.
Chanistha Ampornachariya (aka CT) is the youngest member of our team at 14 years old. CT was born in Bangkok, Thailand and moved to Christchurch at the age of six. CT has won numerous NZ Singles and Doubles titles at U12 and U14 age groups. She has been a member of the Canterbury and the New Zealand Junior Teams representing NZ in 2011 and 2012. CT is a member of the NZ National Secondary Schools Team Championship 2012, and she has a current NZ Ranking 14U – 3. Her favourite player is Caroline Wozniacki. CT is sponsored by Babolat.
Annabel Ellis is 15 years old and resides in Timaru. She was the South Island Primary Schools Champion in 2010. Annabel’s current NZ ranking is 2 in the 14U. She is the current NZ 14 Singles and Doubles Champion and a representative of the NZ 14 girls Team. Annabel was selected for the NZ Training Squad 15-18yrs in February of this year.
